Genesys ZU is prototyping and evaluation board that at its heart is a Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC ARM-FPGA hybrid, coupled with upgradeable memory, network and multimedia interfaces, and a wide variety of expansion connectors making it a versatile computing platform.

The board comes in two variants: 3EG and 5EV, which differ in the MPSoC chip version and some peripherals. The 5EV variant has faster DDR4, more FPGA fabric, a video codec, and GTH transceivers that allow HDMI Source, Sink, and 10G SFP+. Both variants support multiple multimedia and network interfaces with an excellent mix of on-board peripherals, upgrade-friendly DDR4, Mini PCIe and microSD slots, along with multi-camera and high-speed expansion connectors which are designed to support a wide range of use-cases. The Genesys ZU is primarily targeted towards Linux-based applications that facilitate access to Wi-Fi, cellular radio (WWAN), SSD, USB SuperSpeed and 4K video. The board has two specialized ports, including Pmod and high-speed SYZYGY-compliant expansion module ports for new Zmods, enabling flexible expansion and easy access to a wide ecosystem of add-on modules, perfect for silicon evaluation and rapid prototyping.

The Zynq UltraScale+ 3EG devices are designed for next-generation wired and 5G wireless infrastructure, cloud computing, AI, and Aerospace and Defense applications. On the other hand, the 5EV devices are designed for high-definition video and are ideal for multimedia, automotive ADAS, surveillance, and other embedded vision applications.

The Genesys ZU is fully compatible with Xilinx's high-performance Vitis and Vivado suites. This tool set melds FPGA logic design and embedded ARM software development into an easy to use, intuitive design flow. It can be used for designing systems of any complexity, from a complete operating system running multiple server applications, down to a simple bare-metal program that controls some LEDs.
